CQC registration document guidance

Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Policy

This policy should explain how your organisation will provide inclusive services, respect individual differences and protect people's rights in practice.

Why this matters for your registration

  • •CQC wants to see that your service can meet equality, diversity, accessibility and human rights responsibilities.
  • •The policy should show how people will be treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
  • •It should also explain how discrimination, harassment and barriers to access will be addressed.

What you should prepare

  • •How reasonable adjustments will be identified, recorded and reviewed.
  • •How accessible communication, technology and information will be provided.
  • •How staff will recognise and respond to cultural, social, religious and personal needs.
  • •How confidentiality, information sharing and record keeping will be handled appropriately.
  • •How bullying, harassment, discrimination and victimisation will be challenged.

Before you submit

  • •Do not keep the policy general — show how it will work in day-to-day care.
  • •Make sure accessibility and communication needs are clearly addressed.
  • •Link the policy with complaints, safeguarding, consent and care planning arrangements.
  • •Keep it consistent with equality, data protection and human rights responsibilities.
