Gas and Electrical Safety Certificates

Gas and Electrical Safety Certificates help show that the premises and relevant systems in your proposed care home have been checked and are safe to use.

Why this matters for your registration

  • •CQC expects premises and equipment to be safe and suitable for the people who will live, work and visit there.
  • •These certificates support your wider premises evidence and help show that key utilities and installations have been inspected properly.
  • •They also help demonstrate consistency across your Environment Risk Assessment, Fire Risk Assessment and wider safety planning.

What you should prepare

  • •Current gas safety certification for relevant gas installations, appliances and systems where gas is present.
  • •Current electrical safety evidence for the premises, including installation checks and any relevant portable appliance testing arrangements.
  • •Documents that clearly relate to the correct premises address and the systems in the building you intend to register.
  • •Evidence that any identified safety issues have been resolved or managed appropriately before submission.
  • •Inspection dates, expiry information and contractor details where relevant.
  • •Supporting records that match the safety arrangements described elsewhere in your premises documents.

Before you submit

  • •Make sure the certificates are current and relate to the exact premises in your application.
  • •Check that any remedial actions have been completed and documented.
  • •Keep the details consistent with your Environment Risk Assessment, Fire Risk Assessment and Business Continuity Plan.
  • •Do not submit outdated or mismatched certificates for a different property.
