Why this matters for your registration
- •CQC wants to see that your service understands behaviour as a form of communication and is committed to reducing restrictive practices.
- •A strong PBS Policy helps show how your service will protect dignity, quality of life, rights, independence and individual needs.
- •It also demonstrates how your organisation will plan, monitor and review specialist support for people who may experience distress or behaviours requiring additional support.
What you should prepare
- •A clear purpose and scope for your Positive Behaviour Support approach, including proactive support and reducing restrictive practices.
- •The principles that underpin your approach, such as person-centred care, dignity, respect and understanding behaviour as communication.
- •How functional behaviour assessments and individual PBS plans will be developed, reviewed and used to shape support.
- •Staff training, supervision, reflective practice and ongoing support arrangements linked to your Staff Training Plan.
- •Monitoring, data collection, review and governance arrangements showing how you will learn from evidence and improve support strategies.
- •How restrictive practices, safeguarding, risk management, equality, inclusion and reasonable adjustments will be addressed in practice.
