CQC registration document guidance

Public and Employer Liability Insurance

CQC expects provider applicants to show that suitable liability insurance or indemnity arrangements are in place for the service they want to register.

Why this matters for your registration

  • •Insurance evidence helps show that your organisation is properly protected against relevant liabilities.
  • •The exact evidence varies depending on whether you are registering home care, supported living or another type of service.
  • •Your evidence must match the service described in your application.

What you should prepare

  • •A Public Liability Insurance certificate or quote where there are no employees.
  • •A combined Public and Employer Liability Insurance certificate or quote where both are covered together.
  • •Separate documents plus the CQC Liability Insurance Supporting Information Form where needed.
  • •For home care or supported living, acceptable proposals may include policies, quotations or letters of intent.

Before you submit

  • •Make sure any insurance quote is still valid when you submit your application.
  • •Check that the business details and nature of the service match your application.
  • •Include Employer Liability evidence where applicable.
  • •Use the supporting information form if your arrangements are split across separate documents.
