CQC registration document guidance

Statement of Purpose

Your Statement of Purpose is a key legal document in your CQC registration application. It explains what your service will do, where it will operate, who it is for and how it will be managed.

Why this matters for your registration

  • •Unlike many other supporting documents, the Statement of Purpose is a legal requirement.
  • •It gives CQC a clear picture of the service you are proposing to operate.
  • •It needs to match the information throughout the rest of your application.

What you should prepare

  • •Clear aims and objectives that reflect your actual proposed service.
  • •Full details of each location, including address, contacts and service type.
  • •The people your service intends to support and the relevant service user bands.
  • •The regulated activities provided at each location.
  • •Registered manager details, responsibilities and time allocations where applicable.
  • •Information that is consistent with your application, business plan and other supporting documents.

Before you submit

  • •Avoid generic wording that could describe any provider.
  • •Check that locations, regulated activities and service-user bands all match the application.
  • •Make sure manager details are complete and correctly linked to each location.
  • •Review the whole document against your other registration evidence for consistency.
