The video pauses automatically when you scroll away. Care Compliance Expert is independent of CQC, and this preparation tool does not predict an assessment outcome.
A CQC registration assessment is not a test with one published list of correct answers. CQC may use a Fit Person Interview, site visit or nominated individual discussion to explore whether the applicant understands the proposed service and can meet the regulations in practice.
The practice questions in this guide are preparation prompts rather than a prediction of the exact questions CQC will ask. Use them to organise honest, service-specific answers supported by your application, policies and operating plans.
A reliable framework for answering CQC questions
A clear answer should show more than knowledge of a policy. It should demonstrate how the proposed service will turn its responsibilities into safe, consistent practice.
- 1State the principle or responsibility in plain language.
- 2Explain what will happen in your service and who will be responsible.
- 3Identify the evidence, such as assessments, records, supervision or audits.
- 4Describe how concerns will be escalated and external duties considered.
- 5Explain how leaders will check the action worked and share learning.
Practice questions about your service
- Which regulated activities are you applying for, and what will they cover?
- Who will use the service, and how will you decide whether you can meet a person's needs?
- What are the main risks in your service model, and how will they be controlled?
- How do your statement of purpose, staffing plan and policies describe the same service?
- What will happen if demand grows faster than recruitment or staff capacity?
- How will people receive information in a format they can understand?
Practice questions about safety and rights
- How would you respond to a safeguarding concern involving a member of staff?
- How will consent and decision-specific mental capacity be assessed and recorded?
- How will you recruit safely and verify competence before staff work independently?
- How will medicines incidents, missed visits or other significant events be managed?
- How will complaints, whistleblowing and duty of candour work in practice?
- How will care protect dignity, equality, privacy and the person's right to make choices?
Practice questions about leadership and evidence
- What information will tell you whether care is safe and effective?
- How will you audit records, staffing, training, incidents and complaints?
- How will the provider, nominated individual and registered manager challenge one another?
- What would you do if an audit showed repeated poor practice?
- How will people using the service and staff influence improvement?
- How will you keep your knowledge and systems current after registration?
Turn written preparation into confident speaking
- 1Review the exact application and supporting documents you submitted.
- 2Create a one-page map of key roles, risks, records, audits and escalation routes.
- 3Answer questions aloud in two minutes before inviting follow-up questions.
- 4Replace broad claims with a specific process and evidence source.
- 5Check any legal or regulatory point you are unsure about using current official guidance.
- 6Repeat practice on the weakest topics rather than rehearsing only comfortable answers.
